Meet the club…….
Katya Gorrie was brought up in a theatre family and started working professionally at the age of 11. She toured with her parent’s theatre company, working as an actor dancer singer, even a puppeteer! Katya went on to study classical music and voice at the royal conservatory and later immersed herself in Jazz! She had a short career in the film and television industry, eventually leaving the acting & dancing behind to focus on a career in music. Never far from her roots, Katya has managed to fuse all her experience into the performer she is today. Katya has written, produced and recorded eight albums to date and toured in North America, Europe and the UK. She has written a children’s album and is the artist director of the Bristol Jazz festival.
Bristol based Jonny Bruce is one of the most in demand trumpet players on the scene today. Working as both a soloist and a lead player in a variety of musical contexts, Jonny has received much critical acclaim for his fiery trumpet work. From Bobby Shew, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis to Kelis and Illa J, his trumpet has seen him perform at venues and festivals across the world with many greats from a variety of genres. Aside from his big band and small group work, he is a passionate educator, the Musical Director of the Bristol Community Big Band, and his trumpet has recently been featured on the BBC drama series The Outlaws.
Mirek Salmon is an experienced bandoneonist, accordionist and pianist. His busy freelance career has seen him perform with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, Royal Shakespeare Company, Bristol Ensemble and London Tango Orchestra amongst others. He has toured extensively around the UK for opera and theatre tours and has been musical director for two pantomime runs.
His own project Tango Calor has performed at some of the biggest tango events in the country as well as at festivals in France and Italy. He has composed music for several television series and enjoys sharing arranging duties for MDC.
When he's not playing with MDC, bassist Andy Crowdy can be heard with jazz legends such as Art Themen or John Etheridge, or playing guitar and keyboards in his Led Zep Project. He enjoys teaching and has written many pieces for both bass and guitar, putting his Masters Degree in Composition to good use. Andy's role in MDC allows him to both lay down a solid grooving foundation to the rhythm section and to offer up flashes of virtuosity when the time is right!

He has contributed to books by guitar legends including Tommy Emmanuel and Mike Stern, whilst his own books including ‘Advanced Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar’ have been released to wide critical acclaim. You can hear his beautiful rendition of ‘Waterloo Sunset’ in the Edgar Wright movie ‘Last Night in Soho’.
